April 1999. Mount Pleasant, a quiet town in New Hampshire, is shaken by the murder of Alaska Sanders, a young aspiring actress, who is found brutally murdered on the shore of a lake.

The famous writer and amateur detective Marcus Goldman, an old friend of Gahalowood from the time of the iconic Harry Quebert Affair, will pick up the thread of the case from the beginning.
