The WF-1000XM5 headphones feature highly advanced technology to deliver top-notch sound quality and the best noise cancellation on the market. Real-time processing audio processors and high-performance microphones power the specially designed driver unit for wide frequency range reproduction, deep bass, and clear vocals. They are designed to immerse you in such high-quality sound that you will feel like you are in the studio with your favorite artists. The WF-1000XM5 headphones raise the bar for distraction-free listening and sound clarity.
The best noise cancellation
The WF-1000XM5 reduce external noise across a wide frequency range, from low to high frequencies. They feature two exclusive processors that cancel more external noise than ever before, a new high-performance Dynamic Driver X unit, dual feedback microphones, and innovative noise isolation earbud covers that provide a more stable fit.
Real-time noise cancellation processing can be optimized to deliver the best performance for your environment. The acoustic difference will be significant, especially on airplanes, trains, or buses.
Impressive sound quality
The specially designed Dynamic Driver X unit offers wide frequency range playback, deeper bass, reproduces even the finest vocal details, while enhancing subtle nuances in sound, especially in high-pitched instruments. The stunning performance across the entire frequency range provides smooth and natural sound no matter what you are listening to.
Sony's Best Ever Call Quality
Thanks to an algorithm with artificial intelligence technology based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing, and bone conduction microphone sensors, your voice will sound clear and more natural, even in noisy environments. And, if you are outdoors, the noise reduction structure will minimize any noise from wind gusts, so your interlocutors can always hear what you are saying.
Small and stylish
With an improved glossy texture and a more luxurious feel, these earbud-type headphones fit comfortably in your ears while canceling out external sounds. By reducing the size of the earbud body and optimizing the placement of the components, the earbud is now approximately 25% smaller and 20% lighter compared to the WF-1000XM4. Additionally, we have also reduced the size of the charging case, so it fits even more elegantly in your pocket.

One earphone uses more battery than the other. I searched the internet and they mention that it's not a malfunction, but one of the two takes on the role of the main unit, so it consumes more battery. Convenient excuse or lie? I don't know. Other than that, I am very satisfied with Sony
I am writing this review as a holder of the headphones for 1 week. The headphones, when I bought them, cost €200. They fit well in the ears (the packaging has options for your ear size), and when you take them out of the case, they connect directly to the phone. They have a good Bluetooth signal and will work at a considerable distance from the device (8-10 meters tested here). The battery is indeed 8 hours as Sony tells us, and with the case, it’s 24 hours, and that is indeed true. Very good sound quality, you can adjust the headphones from the Sony app (SONY | Headphones Connect, available on both iOS and Android - I got it on Android). The headphones have one of the best noise cancellation on the market and it’s quite good, it cuts out surrounding sounds like (fan, fridge, air conditioning, etc.) and you hear very little of someone speaking to you, but if you play (music, video) at any volume you hear nothing and enjoy your music without hearing ANYTHING but your music. It also has access to voice commands for Google Assistant - Gamin. It has 3 microphones that are fantastic for calls, the other person hears you as if you are next to them and there are no interruptions, and you have gestures on both headphones if you want to turn off noise cancellation, and to lower or increase the volume, to pause the video - music or to restart it, to change videos and many other things through gestures you can do with the headphones. The headphones are very good for their price, I have tried Air Pods and the Sony WF 1000 xm5 are much better in sound quality and noise cancellation. They are worth the €250 (that’s the price in most stores) and you will have a pleasant experience.
Very mediocre to bad headphones. I have them for a year and a half. Unfortunately, I fell victim to the few times as I was swayed by the reviews. Throughout this time, they are useless on calls. Sometimes they hear me with parasites, other times very quietly. I am forced to put them in the case and always talk to my clients from my mobile so they don't hear strange noises. I would give one star but I give 2 for the music which is relatively satisfactory. The foam material broke in a month and I use silicone from old headphones. Sometimes one cannot connect to the mobile.
The only downside (besides the price) that I could find is that when the case falls on a surface (e.g. the floor), the earbuds always shoot out. But always. Not almost always. A L W A Y S. Also, the microphone is not terrible during calls, but it can't be compared to microphones that extend to the mouth. Other than that, they have even better noise cancelling than the xm3 I had, 8 hours of battery life, and overall endless features.
Negatives:
Average quality charging case cover.
Inner part made of foam material that easily wears out and not silicone.
Positives: amazing sound quality, ANC and call quality
I bought them a month ago. I will write positive and negative aspects that I noticed.
They fit very well and compared to the sam buds pro that I had, they are much better.
The sound quality is excellent, but it loses this advantage in terms of volume. Even with the company's application, I don't see significant improvement. They have excellent connectivity and are much better for calls than Samsung's buds. However.... when I want to talk with open listening and even though I have taken them out of my ears, they connect by themselves and disrupt the conversation. I press the phone's menu to listen from the phone's speaker, but after a few seconds, it automatically switches the sound back to the earbuds!!! This happens all the time and it is extremely annoying.
In terms of battery, they are okay. I do 2-hour workouts X 3 days and I don't run out of battery.
Their price is higher than what I think they are worth. You pay for the Sony name. I'm not saying they don't have good sound and build quality, but they are overpriced based on the brand name.
I have had them for 6+ months. I am completely satisfied, excellent quality both in conversation and in music, good noise cancelling. Very convenient, battery life is also sufficient.
From a sound perspective, by far the best headphones I have ever used. The ANC is quite satisfactory, superior to the airpods pro I would say, and the ambient noise transfers external sounds to the headphones as needed. Personally, I had no problem with the application, however even if I did, I would go for foam tips since the sound quality is incredible in all conditions.
First experience with the headphones and I will mainly focus on the negative criticism regarding the fit in the ears. Maybe some people had or have problems, but I wore them with the medium size that was on them and they fit perfectly. Lucky? Maybe... I didn't need to try another size, they are tight and stable on me, during talking, eating, and walking, and the noise cancellation is very good. It was something that scared me, but everything is fine. As for the rest, I don't need to bother you since we are talking about unreal sound and a fantastic fit... they are worth every last euro... and something about the volume... guys, they are very loud...
17/2... after 15 days... It's true love, I have no words...
9/3... I received replacement ear cushions from temu again in medium size and they are much better than the factory ones. When you press them and put them in your ears, you feel them sealing the ear, amazing noise cancellation, deep bass... I won't comment further...
I had Galaxy buds pro, I can say that they have helped me a lot. I use them daily (walking, public transportation), the ANC is quite satisfactory, as well as the battery. The sound is deep, countless settings to see what you prefer, they work fine on calls. I would say the app is mediocre but after the initial setup you don't need to open it again, only for updates or changing sound profiles. The only downside for me: a couple of times a week they may not connect directly to the phone (S23 Ultra) and I have to put them in/out of the case to reconnect. I don't consider it a big deal and with an update I believe it will be fixed.
EDIT. now almost daily it will happen to me once, one of the two earbuds will not connect to the phone on the first try
Because there is a lot of hype about these headphones on the internet, I decided to buy them. I am not a Sony fanboy, but I am also not a hater. I have Sony's over-ear headphones (WH-1000MX4) and I am very satisfied. I recommend them to many acquaintances. So, the review is objective.
Pros:
- Battery life: 8 hours with ANC on or Ambient sound on, and 12 hours with ANC/Ambient sound off. Plus, 1 hour of battery life with just a 3-minute charge in their case.
- Bluetooth 5.3 and support for codecs: SBC, AAC, LDAC & LC3.
- The Sony app is very good with many customization options.
- DSEE Extreme support.
- Small case, making it easy to carry, but the headphones only need to be charged twice.
- Multi Pair connection to 2 devices without any issues or disconnections.
- Very good microphones and excellent sound quality that can be achieved with a few adjustments in the Sony app's equalizer for perfect results.
Everything is ideal, but...
The headphones come with foam tips that are not memory foam and do not fit every ear type. Even though there are 4 different types in the package, none of them fit well in my ears, and many other owners face the same problem (Google it). Instead of the headphones adapting to each ear, the ears must be "compatible" with the headphones, or rather, with the foam tips. The headphones stay in the ear and do not fall out, but it is very difficult to fit them tightly enough to isolate external sounds and make the ANC work more effectively. The application's air-tightness test does not pass at all. And here is the paradox: if there is no perfect fit in the ears, then the ANC is non-existent.
The problem can be solved with aftermarket compatible silicone tips. However, it requires a lot of searching because they must have a mesh since the buds do not have a filter; the filter is in the tips!
CONCLUSION:
It is a big flaw on Sony's part that, although they have created almost perfect headphones, they have not succeeded in the area of fitting in the ears. What good is the perfect ANC if I have to hurt my ears and twist the buds in the hope of isolating external sounds and end up without ANC? And let's face it, buying 300 euros headphones and then experimenting to find aftermarket tips is not the best option. Until I find suitable tips, I will stick with the Bose QuietComfort II headphones, which have the best ANC on the market and equally good sound. If I helped you, please give it a like. The dislikes will obviously come from users whose ears fit the buds and not the other way around. Thank you.
Expensive but worth their money. I had the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, which everyone says are the best. I have changed them 4 times and the highs were ruining the sound. In these, the sound is full-bodied without imperfections.. superb. The call quality is perfect, and for the fit in the ear that everyone is afraid of, I'm telling you there is no issue. The earbuds stay in place so well that they are also suitable for running, the gym, etc. The noise canceling is amazing, you can't hear anything, and the ambient sound is much better than Samsung's. I am very happy with my purchase. Samsung has bothered me for a year... stay away.
If I were to rate them compared to Samsung (I have a Samsung phone, I should mention that too) 6/10
Sony 9/10 (not 10/10 because they are not completely waterproof like Samsung)
Edit 11/10/23: My opinion about the earbuds hasn't changed. They have by far the best sound in TWS. The comfort of the eartips, as mentioned by the friend below, is not a problem for me, especially since there are 4 pairs to choose from. The larger size fits me. A piece of advice for those who want them for running and walking: turn off the ANC and ambient, meaning set them to off. Otherwise, their microphone picks up body movement and creates noise. When the microphone is turned off, you can't hear anything.
Update 31/3/24: Now, the best in terms of sound and more are the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4
