Reviews

  • The game is interesting... The truth is that it might be better to read the series of books that have been released (they are not many and they are worth it) in order to have a small idea about the hero and other characters that appear in the game. As for the gameplay, a more extensive reference was made below... The only thing I might have wanted was for it to be in the style of La Noire, meaning driving around the city, changing cars, etc. Other than that, at the price you offer, it is definitely worth having in your collection...
    Good gaming...

This review is about the edition: Limited

Blacksad is one of my favorite comics. Out of the 5 volumes, each one is impeccably designed and every story leaves you with a bittersweet ending, just like the best Noir. It's a shame that they didn't give the same attention to the game adaptation.

Blacksad: Under the Skin is an adventure game. This means that you don't shoot hordes of bad guys, but rather explore the environment and gather clues from dialogues to solve the mystery. And the game is "seemingly" well-designed for this job. You have access to your notebook at all times to see what you know, you can connect clues to draw conclusions, it has branching paths in the story based on your choices that you may regret in the future, and the game forms a psychological profile of your character based on your choices.
The story starts off simple, with Blacksad taking on a missing persons case revolving around an apparent suicide, but as the game progresses, the case unravels into a bigger conspiracy. The beginning is slow, but it will pull you in more and more as you go on!

Where the game suffers is in the technical department. Despite downloading a patch that essentially redownloads the entire game, it still gives the impression that it could crash at any moment. Every loading screen takes a few seconds longer than it should, every animation lags, and every step feels like it might get stuck in the geometry. The truth is that so far the game hasn't crashed or frozen on my standard PS4, but the amateurish work is evident. I've heard that it plays much better on the Pro or X models.

Aside from that, the game occasionally makes references to characters from the comics as Easter eggs, but other times, they appear as blatant copies of comic characters but with completely different identities. The graphics resemble PS3-era work, but if you've played games from the former Telltale games, you'll feel right at home.

If you have the right consoles and can overlook the technical issues, you're in for an exciting story.
