The chapters of the collective volume are based on original empirical research that explores the interactions between gender, migration, and intercultural relations in six thematic fields: intercultural education, neighborhood development and urban movements, the construction of national identity through cinema, violence against women and the illegal trafficking and trade of humans, religious practices as well as mixed marriages and transnational families.

The empirical research presented in this volume was conducted in Greece within the framework of the European cross-border program GeMIC (Gender, Migration and Intercultural Interaction), which was carried out in seven other countries in Southeastern Europe (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Italy, Romania, Spain, Macedonia, and Turkey) (www.gemic.eu). The program was integrated into the 7th Framework Program for Research of the European Union.
