After the firmware update (with which I had no problem), the disk now operates very close to its nominal speeds.
However, at the moment there are equivalent options at this or even lower price (for 2TB capacity) from competitors. Also, the prices of disks and memories in general have increased compared to last September when I purchased the disk.

Owner of the 970 evo plus, I decided to add a second NVME2 SSD to my PC as an upgrade along with some other things. And to separate the software between the two purely for storage/gaming.

I am also one of the unlucky ones who paid a high price to get a good and fast disk, but I got one with half the promised speed and software that does not respond to the necessary updates. I am talking about the Samsung 990 PRO 1TB, which unfortunately came with firmware starting from 3. So I downloaded the Magician from Samsung, which asked me to update the firmware to start from 4. I did it, but the update constantly failed. After spending hours trying to find a way to update for 5 days, I realized that this was beyond my level (ISO with a bootable USB stick and a Linux operating system (where are you going, seriously?). So I decided to remain another dissatisfied customer of Samsung. I do not recommend it... it's better to play joker
I upgraded today from the KC3000 1TB, which after 3000 hours of use (2 years) dropped to 98% of its lifespan, to the 990 2TB.
With Performance Mode ON, through Samsung Magician, it is exactly at the advertised speeds. The necessary firmware update was done, Windows 11 Enterprise was cloned using Macrium Reflect Free Trail, and within 1 hour the computer was ready. I made a mistake in the initial cloning options and for that reason it took me another hour to start all over again (2 hours in total) as there was unallocated space of about 1TB on the disk. The mistake I made was that the partitions were not placed in the same order as on the Kingston, resulting in the main compartment not allowing me to give the Fill Space command.
Idle at 33 degrees (winter) and 36-37 degrees in summer (I imagine it will be somewhere around there, I will come back to it), it's fine in terms of temperatures, I believe.
Update 30/1/2024 (1 week of use): With a room temperature of 17-18 degrees and playing PUBG for about 4 hours, the drive reached temperatures up to 46C! For the case, I have the Lianli O11 Dynamic and 6 x Arctic Bionix P120 intake fans running at 100% with the help of Fan Control when the drive exceeds 40 degrees. For exhaust, I have a 240mm AIO at the top of the case. So, as you can understand, there is good airflow. The drive's heatsink is the one provided by the motherboard with its original thermal pad. I might disable the High Performance mode to see if I get better temperatures because in summer, I can easily see it reaching 50-55 degrees
Installation without problem. It is really very fast. In the speed test, I measured 6880 in reading and 6750 in writing. The temperatures are fine.
I deduct one star because I encountered a problem with the firmware update. I couldn't do it through Samsung Magician as it was giving an error. The only solution was to do it with the ISO on a bootable drive.

- Yes. I'm not an expert in hardware, but I have been extremely satisfied with its performance so far. Loading screens in games have disappeared, and my overall system has never crashed.

Flawless, like all Samsung SSDs, especially when we're talking about the PRO, EVO, etc. series.
Replaced the excellent 970 EVO 512GB, which was changed solely because I wanted to upgrade to a larger capacity, so the performance was already fantastic.
Of course, the difference is evident in benchmarks. A definite solution.
The problem with the Firmware did not occur and after 1 year of usage (not very heavy, admittedly), it is at 100% health. In terms of performance, it is as expected in the system it was installed (10th generation i9).
Bought it for 100 bucks, writing the review after a month of use, so far it works flawlessly. Read/Write speeds are around 7000/6500 in full performance.

Excellent ssd m.2 disk, very fast, when purchasing, order a cooler for it as well. And after installing it on your computer, install the latest driver software for smooth operation.
The purchase was made through Scroutz on 27/9/23 and I received it immediately within one working day. On the 29th of the month, I installed it on my PC. Pure disappointment, one of the many defective pieces came out. At least in my case, the disk, as soon as I installed it on my PC and ran Crystal DiskMark, was working slower than my old but very good 840 Evo SATA 3. I would not recommend buying it. It's better to look for another option.
I bought 1 with a capacity of 1TB to replace a WD SN850X and installed the operating system.
The WD SN850X quickly went to 99% and gave me strange freezes. It had issues with file compression and simultaneous compression of 2 files along with copying from the beginning.
With the Samsung 990 PRO, I noticed a more stable performance, slightly increased speed, but no freezes under pressure!

As soon as I got it, I immediately updated it and there is absolutely no problem. Fully satisfied with the performance! Noticeable difference from the 970 plus I had before.
After months of daily use, it has written about 4tb and has lost 6%.

I'm coming from 980. A very good and fast drive as others have written. Don't be scared by the TBW limits. I have Samsung drives that have exceeded the TBW limit three times and still work perfectly. Samsung Magician also recognizes them.

Yes, the Nvme 980Pro and 990Pro 1TB/2TB have problematic firmware, but:
- The disks that have the problematic firmware are manufactured in Korea. Disks manufactured in Taiwan are much less likely to have it.
- Disks manufactured in 2021 are more likely to have the faulty firmware, while those from 2022 and beyond are less likely to have it.
- The faulty firmware has the number 3B2Qxxxx. Basically, if the firmware starts with the number '3', it is problematic. Firmware with the numbers 4B2Qxxxx/5B2Qxxxx are the newest.
- The problem with the firmware is that it gives incorrect data to the Controller about how much data has been written/deleted in the memory (chip) and does not actually damage the disk. So the Controller thinks that the disk has failed. The issue is that the disk has not failed, the firmware is giving incorrect data. When the firmware is upgraded through Samsung Magician, the artificial wear is corrected as the Controller takes the correct data from the chip cells. The problem with the disk becoming unusable only occurs when the Nvme reaches a specific percentage of wear, then to prevent further damage, it goes into READ ONLY mode, which completely locks the disk from writing, only allowing it to read so that it can be copied/cloned to a new one.

I have taken three disks to put in the Crosshair X670E Extreme. Two are using the PCIe ROG GEN-Z.2 card. They are not in RAID as each disk runs a VM with VMware Pro, and the third is for the Windows 11 Workstation OS, drivers, and VMware Pro. The speeds are quite satisfactory as both VMs can run simultaneously. Files of large size, 2GB-15GB, are transferred from the main OS to the VM without any issues. The controller makes good use of the cache memory without stopping after an hour when it fills up.
As for durability, time will tell. It does not have the most TΒW as 600 TBW for the 1TB (and 1200TBW for the 2TB) means that in 5 years, you can write and delete 358GB per day. The average user is unlikely to see 350GB per day, neither do Windows nor games make 350GB per day. (unless you sit down to download the entire library from Steam, Origin, Uplay, Battle.Net, etc. in one day)
There is a significant problem that I don't see being reported by other users, even though it has caused a buzz on the internet. There have been numerous reports worldwide that this specific nvme has a problem with rapid degradation. I have had it for less than 2 months and with very light usage, not even 2TB reads-writes 250 hours active in total, and I have lost 9%. Samsung has officially acknowledged it as a problem and even pushed a new firmware through Samsung Magician on 13/02/2023 that "fixes" this rapid degradation. I installed it today (23/02) because I was away from home for so long, so I don't know if the problem has actually been fixed. I am incredibly dissatisfied because I paid a premium price for a premium product and such problems are not justified. The fact that Samsung claims that the new firmware has stopped the rapid degradation does not necessarily mean that the damage that has been done so far will be fixed as well...
If I had the time, I would go through the RMA process, but that would leave me without a machine for a long time... in the future, I might replace it with another model and keep it as a second one until it dies. I wouldn't recommend it even after the fix, as companies need to start respecting our money and releasing proper products. I attach a screenshot after the firmware upgrade.
Edit 28/02/2023: To clarify the issue with the problematic firmware even further.
Initially, the old problematic firmware of the 990 pro was 0B2QJXD7, which was replaced by 1B2QJXD7, which according to Samsung Magician is also the latest. The firmware starting with 3B2Q..., 4B2Q etc. are for the 980 Pro. Health Degradation is not virtual, cannot be rolled back, and there is no official reference to such a thing. However, all user reports indicate that although the main problem has been fixed, the indications in various reporting programs and in Samsung Magician continue to show the Health that their ssd had before the fix. So those who have lost more than 10% should consider RMA.
My opinion remains that it is not a good purchase and it would be better to avoid it, as there are other reliable nvme with similar performance (which, let's face it, after a point don't matter that much for the average user) and similar warranty. If it had a 10-year warranty like Samsung used to offer, we would think about it more, but those times have passed...
My issue with this particular disk is only the TBW at 1200GB. While other disks offer twice as much, I would say it offers decent value for its price, but could be more competitive in terms of lifespan for its cost.
It's a go. Although the price is a bit steep, it delivers on its promises. Read speeds >7GB/sec and write speeds >6.8GB/sec. A great investment for those in need of a speedy M.2.
