Some Tips

You should keep in mind that the size of the pot depends on the size of the plant. A general rule you can follow when choosing pots is that for spherical cacti, the diameter of the pot should be 5 cm larger than the diameter of the cactus. In the case of tall columnar plants, the pot should have a diameter equal to 1/3 of the height of the plant.

Choosing the Soil

A standard soil mix suitable for most succulents consists of one part coarse river sand, one part sifted leaf mold, and one part common garden soil. A second mix can consist of one part peat and one part coarse river sand. The mix should meet the basic needs of the plants, which are: good aeration, excellent drainage, and supply of nutrients.

Repotting

After removing the plant from the old pot, carefully examine the roots for insects and diseases. Cut off all rotten rootlets and carefully remove some of the old soil. Place the plant in the new pot so that the roots are 1-2 cm away from the bottom of the pot and add soil, pressing it lightly with your fingers to make contact with the roots. You should never water after repotting because there is a risk of the plants rotting. After repotting, the pot is moved to a shady place for about a week and then placed in its normal position. To do all these tasks, it is good to use gardening gloves and wrap the plant with newspaper folded several times. If you still get pricked and thorns remain in your hand, stick adhesive tape to the spot where the thorns are and pull it off quickly. Most of the thorns will come off with the adhesive tape.

Watering - Fertilizing

Water the cacti mainly during their growing period and very little or not at all when they are "resting." Between two consecutive waterings, let the soil dry out. Fertilizing is done during the growing period and never during the resting period. Use fertilizer that contains little nitrogen and a lot of phosphorus and potassium.
