The changes that have taken place in the structure, function, and dimensions of residential units at all levels have significantly affected the form and organization of the modern urban space. The IX car played an important role in shaping this. The rapid increase in car ownership and use, as well as the increase in the number and length of trips, led to situations that were incompatible with the smooth functioning of urban space, such as environmental degradation and fragmentation of the urban fabric, as well as intense traffic congestion.
The arrangement and normalization of these situations pass through the development and organization of strong forms of collective transport systems. In order to achieve the optimal result in this direction, thorough and integrated design is required, which must take into account the multi-parametric nature of the systems, which is their transport, environmental, economic, and social dimension.
The aim of the book is to create a framework and sufficient knowledge, so that transport systems can be successfully combined and coordinated with each other, in order to contribute, by maximizing their efficiency, to the benefit of society as a whole.
The book has been written in such a way as to cover the needs, concerns, reflections, and questions of students with different orientations, who have chosen and included in their curriculum courses related to transportation issues. It is addressed to students of polytechnic schools, providing them with knowledge about the organization and economic management of collective transport, as well as to students of economic schools, introducing them to design, operation, and programming issues, with the aim of making terms and concepts as understandable as possible to a wider range of students with different scientific interests.
