From readers of "Fortunately, we were defeated, comrades" and my letter to Mikis Theodorakis on 7-9-03, on the occasion of the "party" he organized at the end of August of the same year in Makronisos, I received several letters, some praising, others criticizing.
I replied to some of them, not to others.
It was not out of indifference or because I considered them unworthy of a response. On the contrary. Some of these letters are not limited only to issues related to our recent history. They touch on contemporary topics of general interest that more or less dominate the thoughts of every thinking citizen, key issues that open or close horizons and ultimately determine our national path.
My estimation is that with the ideological dominance of the Left, despite its defeat in the Civil War, and with the imposition of its positions on crucial political and ideological issues, our ideological life has sunk into a deep impasse, it has fallen into a coma.
Greek society is unable to interpret the modern world, unable to synchronize its pace with the pace of History. Some of the readers point out this reality and try to interpret it.
I considered it appropriate and useful to respond openly to some of these letters. The reader will judge whether I did well or not.
