Description

"The work to which I have dedicated myself today... is the most important work of my life - more important than 1917, more important than the Civil War or any other."

These lines were written by Leon Trotsky in 1935.
His supporters were few, but the tasks he had ahead of him were enormous.
During the period between his final exile in 1929 and his assassination in 1940, Trotsky wrote brilliant analyses on fascism, the explosion of the labor movement in France, the revolution in Spain, and the triumph of Stalinism in Russia.

His efforts to offer an alternative solution to the barbarism that ultimately led to the Holocaust and World War II did not succeed at that time. Just as his tireless efforts to create strong revolutionary organizations that could support the labor movement in the 1930s to achieve final victory also largely failed. But his work remains to this day an invaluable guide for analysis and action in the current battles we are fighting in the deepest crisis of the system that has existed since then.

In this final volume of his biography of Trotsky, Tony Cliff extensively uses all the archives that have been opened in the former USSR and the United States in the last twenty years, to give us a unique description, analysis, and interpretation of the last years of the life of the great revolutionary, as well as the key events that marked this period.
