Description

The trial of Socrates is a historical event that not only marked the political history of Athens. By creating, or rather completing, the myth of Socrates, it led to the creation of a new literary genre, the Socratic dialogues, dialogues with Socrates as the protagonist. At the same time, this trial, by influencing Plato in philosophy, deeply affected the history of what we call Western philosophy. In the Apology, Plato presents the self-defensive speech of his teacher, which, as he tells us, he himself heard. In Crito, Socrates, considering that he was wronged by people and not by the laws of Athens, explains to his close friend why his escape would be contrary to justice and remains in his position to be executed.
