This monograph is one of the few in Greek literature that analyzes the interaction between regulation and governance, both at the national (Greek) level and at the level of the European Union. The approach adopted is inherently interdisciplinary, as covering all aspects of the issue requires the combined application of multiple scientific disciplines, starting with legal science as the basic field of study of legal rules, and then utilizing a significant part of the knowledge field of political science and administrative science, while the mobilization of lessons from political economics and public economics constitutes a key point of enrichment of the approach.
A central point of the analysis is the assessment that law, as a mechanism for creating frameworks and determining roles (powers of action), which are based on (understood as) pre-existing general principles and values, has strong descriptive and regulatory characteristics, thus limiting the possibility of a complete interpretation of governance and regulation. Thus, it takes into account the fact that the study of regulatory function within the framework of governance records close links between the exercise of power, in the form of political choices regarding the type and content of regulations, and the processes of economic interaction and transaction that exist in a relatively free market, within the framework of a globalized economy.
Therefore, regulations are approached as factors of the institutional framework, which not only define the field of interaction in an organized society, but also impose limitations and create the foundations for the possible choices of actors in society, "structuring" economic activities, social relationships, political processes, and the results of relevant developments depend to a large extent on the regulatory framework within which they take place.
