The book is designed to equip undergraduate or graduate students of various disciplines (Environmental Engineers, Civil Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Hydrogeologists) with the necessary background for a comprehensive understanding of the general principles regarding water and wastewater treatment. Furthermore, the book supports courses that aim to explore and deepen the knowledge of Environmental Technology. It should be noted that the majority of the book's material is based on the academic notes for the Water Treatment course of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Patras.

Most of the topics examined in this book are presented in depth, intentionally, so that students can fully understand all the necessary scientific principles that can stimulate further and more effective research and scientific inquiry. The chapters of the book are self-contained so that the reader does not need to refer to other books for additional clarifications. Each chapter begins with fundamental principles, followed by selected examples. Although this book attempts to emphasize theoretical analysis, the instructor has the ability to focus more on applications, emphasizing solved examples.

The book contains numerous solved examples, which aim to demonstrate to students how fundamental principles are applied in solving environmental problems. The problems aim to develop conceptual knowledge rather than simply presenting the application of equations or mathematical models. Several examples use real data.
