The subject of religious education should be part of the curriculum, and with what content? Should this subject be mandatory for all students regardless of their beliefs and religion? Or should it be optional, even for Orthodox students?

These three questions focus on the issue of religious education, which is more controversial than ever today. That is why there is an urgent need for a new modern perspective on the problem, from both a legal and Orthodox theological standpoint.

This dual perspective leads to a new understanding of the subject, which should no longer be catechetical or confessional, but rather have an educational character with the object of knowledge of a culture: the Orthodox culture of the East, which is the "culture of us" in contrast to Western culture, which is the culture of "me".

This conclusion is reached through the combination of law and Orthodox theology, which is not only appropriate but also feasible.
