Description
The focus of the novel is an abandoned shoe on a Parisian rooftop. Ten different stories unfold around this "sky-descending" shoe. Stories that intertwine with each other and give the author the opportunity to weave the intricate web of doubt, abolishing the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
The protagonists all live in the same apartment building, in a neighborhood of Paris next to the train tracks of Gare du Nord: a dreamy little girl, a lovestruck burglar, three eccentric criminals, a TV presenter-celebrity, a pensive dog, an illegal immigrant, an eccentric old lady, a contemporary avant-garde artist, a narrator on the verge of suicide...
Delecroix moves freely and creatively between philosophical delirium and elegiac lament, transitioning from satire of morals to rhetoric and fairy tale, in his effort to describe, sometimes with wit and sometimes with a dramatic tone, the deep loneliness of modern man.
