How does liquidity arise and what does it entail for the boundaries between the refugee and migrant regime, humanitarian protection, and state repression, the internal and external boundaries of the national society? How do the migration subjects themselves manage the changes that have occurred in the refugee protection framework and the increasing border surveillance? How do global events become localized in a border island community?

This volume approaches bordering as a research field and teaching subject, but also as an experience. Its themes revolve around issues concerning the policies of the Greek state and the European Union that (re)define internal and external borders, refugees and the inscription of refugee status in the body, alive or dead, the ambiguity that the construction and operation of detention centers for immigrants and refugees and the simultaneous humanitarian aid to the detainees give to the borders.
