The honorable gift that Thessaloniki bestowed upon Modern Greek Literature with its unparalleled intellectual and literary "School" was offered by G. Th. Vafopoulos, who first, after going through painful existential trials, heard within himself and interpreted the unique, high-pitched voice of the School.

We honor with this volume the worthy, tireless, inspired Leader of it, and we honor his autonomously worthy poetic primarily, but also prose work, a work that seemed to already claim immortality - and that defines the boundary and the height of a "School," the "School of Thessaloniki."

We also honor the memory and the moral stature of a rare man and an honest friend, with the inevitable pain of our recent separation, as death hurried and cut him off from this tangible world, just one month before this volume was prepared to be offered to him.

And so, the wreath of glory that we wove for him became a wreath of funeral myrtle and laurel, with the salty dew of our tears.
