If I could create a game that had the beautiful landscape of Anthem, the shooting of Division 2, the voice acting of Inquisition, the semi-open-linear world of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the crisp graphics of RDR2, the looting system of AC Odyssey, and the futuristic style of Destiny, that would be Outriders. From the first moment until the end of the story, it pulls you in with beloved characters and an engaging story, and honestly, you want to keep playing until you've experienced everything it has to offer.
Yes, okay, it doesn't really innovate in any particular area, but it has taken the best elements from many shooter looter games and adapted them very well to its own world, and it works flawlessly!
What stands out is the gameplay. It offers you 4 classes that are great on their own, especially if you play solo in the beginning, and in multiplayer, especially with friends, it soars. There's not much else to say, you can only understand it if you play it.
Personally, the shooting and the sound are what stand out, but if I had to summarize, I would say:
+ Amazing gameplay
+ Addictive shooting
+ Very nice looting system. EA, take notes from Square Enix (yes, Anthem, I'm talking about you)
+ Beloved characters
+ Very beautiful story
+ Good amount of endgame content
+ Extremely fast loading times, thanks to the PS5 of course.
However, it's not perfect, and the things that bothered me are:
- Problematic servers so far, during peak hours it can take 10-15 minutes to get in due to traffic, I assume...
- Pop-ups in random places (grass or objects appearing where they shouldn't), which will surely be patched.
- Limited character customization options.
Overall, though, I can say that I don't regret buying it at all, I've been playing it with great pleasure for a week now. The endgame content is enough to keep you playing for weeks on end.
Edit: 15-06-21
I reluctantly lower the rating to 4 stars as the servers still have a major issue, and there is constant lag. Since in the endgame the only thing worth it is multiplayer and the company doesn't seem to really care to fix it, it doesn't give me the motivation to continue. Otherwise, it's very good...
