Description

Ceramic resistors represent an advancement in technology for the ignition of solid fuels. They are the best ignition solution for stoves, burners, and pellet and biomass boilers. Ideal for wood pellets, corn, coal, pits, etc.

  • Requires less time and therefore less energy consumption for ignition.
  • Long lifespan (due to non-aging).
  • Ignition time from 60 seconds.
  • Tested up to 37,000 cycles.
  • Used for a long time in the Japanese market (15 years).
  • Easy to install and in devices that use the traditional resistance model.
  • Fits any steel tube with an internal diameter > 18 millimeters.
  • Maintains 950 ~ 1050 °C.
  • Cannot overheat, even with fan failure.
  • Available in 220V.
  • Power 300Watts.
  • Fully electrically insulated with no exposed electrical contacts.
  • UL / CE certified wiring (200 to 500 °C heat resistant).
  • Impervious to oxidation and corrosion.
  • Dimensions: Length = 96 millimeters, Diameter = 11.5 millimeters.
  • Ignites wood pellets, wood chips, dry firewood, briquettes, corn, dry pits, and other types of biomass.
  • With shorter length so as not to come into contact with the fuel.

This review is about a variation of the product

I bought this specific ceramic resistor PSX-7-240B after doing some research on the internet.

I used-installed it for the pellet stove I have (the old resistor-coil) which was metallic and burnt out after 5 years.

I used it in a KING brand pellet stove, specifically the KING98-BKI model.

It screwed on properly onto the thread of the stove pipe. The thread of the resistor is 3/8" (you will need a 17" wrench).

It is slightly shorter than the metallic resistor it replaced, but it has no problem at all. It ignites faster as a resistor and the pellets catch fire normally without any issue.

Now, how long it will last, only time will tell

This review is about a variation of the product

I replaced a 300W metal resistance (coil) measuring 14cm in length (13cm from the beginning of the pass) with the ceramic resistance PSX-7-240B. I am not a technician, I just have some basic knowledge. The reason for the change was the trouble I had been experiencing with the metal resistance for the past 2 years. At first, occasionally, the boiler would display an error. It would fill the tray with pellets without igniting. Gradually, the symptoms became more frequent until one day the resistance suddenly died. I chose the ceramic resistance for two reasons: a) for its faster ignition speed due to the higher temperature it generates, and b) for its longer lifespan (according to the specifications) compared to the traditional metal resistance.

The traditional metal resistance takes about 830 degrees in 4.5 minutes, while the ceramic resistance exceeds 1000 degrees in 1.5 minutes. This means faster ignition of the pellets and savings in electricity consumption.

I purchased it with some reservations because I didn't know if it would fit easily into the boiler's flue pipe. I read that it fits in any pellet boiler or stove with a flue pipe diameter not less than 18 millimeters. There needs to be a minimum distance between the resistance and the walls of the flue pipe so that hot air can enter the tray with the pellets and ignite them. Measuring the diameter of the flue pipe is not easy due to its difficult position inside the combustion chamber. So I had the following thought: since the diameter of the metal resistance is 10 millimeters and the diameter of the ceramic resistance is 11.5 millimeters, the difference is 1.5 millimeters. With the naked eye, I saw that there was enough space.

Also, the length of the ceramic resistance is much shorter than the length of the metal resistance. Before installation, I thought this was a disadvantage. However, I found that it doesn't play any role at all. Ignition occurs in 2.5 to 3 minutes. This time is very short, considering that there is a dead time until the tray is filled with the necessary amount of pellets.

I chose the PSX-7-240B because it is internally hollow, like a tube. Thus, according to the manufacturer, it generates temperature both externally and internally. Theoretically, this will result in better circulation of hot air.

Electrical connection is required. If you are not comfortable with it, call a technician.

    I hope I helped.
