Description

This volume, the eighth in the series of works by Antonio Gramsci, is a volume different from the previous ones. It is a collection of his most important texts that were published in Greece on the occasion of the forty years since the publication of the "Intellectuals".

The name of Gramsci is now a fixed point of reference in the East and the West, in Europe and the United States, in Latin America and Japan. Everywhere, the breadth of his perception, the originality of his positions, and the richness of his applications are emphasized, where the relationship between will, human action, and objective conditions is determined without stereotypes and dogmas.

That is why he constantly surprises us with his topicality that restores the philosophy of action as a living method that urgently raises the issue of renewing the movement, the issue of redefining the camps and highlighting the real driving forces of change in a world that steadily slides into barbarism.

However, this redefinition sets a decisive condition. Being absolutely hostile to an amoralistic approach to politics, Gramsci, due to his works, declares his deep conviction about the connection between ethics and politics. Therefore, he insists that the prestige of the new historical bloc cannot be based solely on material or formally ideological superiority. It also needs its ethical legitimation. This discarded, particularly in our days, in the unexplored value element, is what the great Italian thinker earnestly sought and ultimately emerged as an indispensable prerequisite for any future socialism he dared to pursue.

A tool of memory, reflection, acquaintance with the most substantial, representative, and timeless part of his work, but also a tool for critically reestablishing the present with the aim of the future, this edition aspires to be in the hands of the active reader/citizen. Both of those who approach him for the first time and those who already know him, considering a steady dialogue with him as an organic need.
