Significant was the contribution of the "romaleos", already from the 1950s, a student movement that constituted the driving force in the establishment and operation of the political-party Youth Organizations across the entire political spectrum.

The Greek Democratic Youth (EDEN), successor to the Youth Organization of the Union of the Centre (ONEK), was one of the most active with a nationwide organizational structure and hundreds of thousands of members and supporters, the most populous, by estimation, of all.
