The fascinating and brief life journey of Fr. Seraphim Rose passed through the complexities of the "American dream" of the '60s-'70s, surpassed the despair of the nihilism of his time, and with the Grace of God, he was led to the Truth that his noble and uncompromising soul so eagerly sought.
Fr. Seraphim found the Truth in the person of Jesus Christ and dedicated himself to Him.
He left everything to follow Him - family, material comforts, a brilliant academic career; he, an American former Protestant, changed his faith, place, and name, became Orthodox in the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, then a monk, and reached the far corners of the American continent.
Together with a new Russian Orthodox, he created a monastery dedicated to St. Herman of Alaska in the untamed mountains of Northern California, the first saint of the American continent. There, he lived as a monk and struggled with his rich literary work to transmit the ancient spiritual tradition of the Fathers of the Eastern Orthodox Church.
The words of Fr. Seraphim continue to awaken the consciences of tens of thousands of his fellow Americans, as well as Russians and many other people around the world, even today, when he is no longer with us...
