Description
Can a book become the subject of a police investigation as if it were a crime, with traces in its pages, engravings, and printing marks? Lucas Corso, a mercenary book hunter for others, must find an answer to this question when he takes on a double mission from his clients: to verify the authenticity of a handwritten chapter of "The Three Musketeers" and to solve the mystery of a strange book that was burned in 1667 along with the man who printed it. The investigation drags Corso into a dangerous quest, leading him to the archives of the Inquisition, forbidden books, dusty bookstore shelves with old volumes, and the select libraries of renowned collectors. With his unique narrative talent, Reverte, who has been described as the master of intelligent suspense, builds "The Dumas Club" stone by stone with a captivating plot where the elements of the classic novel, mystery stories, and the techniques of adventurous feuilleton meet. The novel was adapted into a film by Roman Polanski in 1999, titled "The Ninth Gate," starring Johnny Depp and Lena Olin.

Reviews
I was also a fan of the movie "The Ninth Gate" and I decided to get the book it was based on because I thought it would evoke the same emotions in me. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way I imagined.
They say that when you watch the movie first and then read the book, you won't like the book. The same goes for the opposite. Maybe it's true.
So, let me explain my rating:
- Firstly, the story is slightly different from the movie and it doesn't align with what you already have in your mind and expect to relive.
- The book is literature, which means the author writes about so many situations, abstract or not, metaphors or events that are not directly related to the story and it confuses you a bit and makes you lose track.
- Sometimes I would get confused about who was speaking and I would have to reread the entire paragraph from the beginning to figure it out.
- If I hadn't already seen the movie and started reading it, I believe I would have been so confused that I would have given up.
- Personally, it didn't excite me at all, quite the opposite. It had nothing to do with the movie that I loved.
- Even though I knew the story, it wasn't that easy to read.
- Personally, I didn't enjoy it at all. Unfortunately, because it's one of my favorite stories.Maybe someone who generally reads this kind of books would enjoy it more, what can I say.
