Did you find this review helpful?Very decent remake, I don't understand what some people were expecting in terms of graphics, especially for the price. Not all games need next-gen graphics to be beautiful, personally I find them very realistic, especially the faces, and the cutscenes are fantastic with amazing storytelling and direction, like watching a movie. The art and aesthetics of the game are exactly what the game needed to set the mood. I didn't encounter any glitches on the PS5.
The gameplay is enjoyable even though it is simplified, and it has good level design in the missions. Each one has a small story to tell with action to offer.

Mediocre graphics (I understand that it was a remake, but still, I can't say it was anything impressive), many bugs, and frequent fps drops while driving. Finally, I have to say that the game is excessively small (despite having a nice story) and the free mode is indifferent. Excellent music nonetheless. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's probably more for nostalgic fans of the old one. Personally, it was mediocre for me.

The only thing that seemed good while playing was the storyline, because in terms of graphics, physics, and interaction with the environment, it was lacking... it felt like I was playing a PS2 game. Games of this kind, you should only choose Rockstar. Even Watch Dogs is much better than Mafia and this particular one, as well as the third one which is more recent.

Did you find this review helpful?A very decent remake of a classic and a very good game. Having played the original, I have to say that we are talking about completely different games. The city of Lost Heaven has come back to life with very nice graphics and attention to detail. It looks like a city taken straight out of the 1930s, with each district having its own character.
There are two modes: Story and Freeride. The story is very good, especially for the time it was made, but I believe that something could have been done to add a bit more depth in certain parts (e.g. the war with Morello). The characters seem refreshed with new voice actors, and the cutscenes are much better.
The gameplay has also been improved. The shooting reminds me more of Mafia 3. The AI has been greatly improved, with enemies now taking cover, trying to flank you, and throwing bombs. It makes it very realistic that the weapons don't have many bullets, so you have to calculate your shots.
The driving is also very good, especially if you put it on Simulation mode. There, you have to control speeds, gasoline (it's very difficult to run out, of course), and the weight of the car plays a role. In short, it is the closest thing to driving vehicles of that era. It is also nice to put the Police Response on Simulation, where even minor offenses can give you a wanted level (e.g. dangerous driving gets you a fine, small crimes get you arrested).
Free Ride is the second mode of Mafia, and its role is small. Apart from 2-3 side missions, collectibles, taxi fares, races, and exploring the city and surrounding areas, it doesn't have anything else.
For me, as a package, it is worth its money and more, partly because it knows how much it asks for and partly because the overall quality is very good.

In the rest, I really liked the sound and the plot, but what caught my attention was the incredibly realistic gameplay. From the beginning, I played it in classic mode, which is incredibly difficult, but we're talking about battles taken straight from reality. I started with Mafia 2, the original one, not the definite edition, then Mafia 3, and finally Mafia 1 definite edition. Personally, I found the first one to be the best and most well-structured of all. First of all, are these people magicians? They made a game from 2002 look like it was made in 2021 with their remake. The sound is flawless, as well as the graphics. The story is linear without filling the paper with missions, etc. that waste time and make you bored. It offers an excellent mafia story that teaches a lot about "the rich" life and its dangers in general. It's a mature game with enjoyable characters. Especially the 5 main characters are wonderful. In the remake, the voice actors have done a very good job. Personally, through a comparison I heard, I prefer them much more than those of the first game. For me, guys, buy the game, it's really worth it. The quality and work that has been put into it is indescribable to bring it to a 2021 standard. It's a great game that doesn't remind you of games that are released these days. It doesn't have any fillers to waste your time unnecessarily, nor microtransactions. It's a story that could easily be a movie (and I'm not talking about The Godfather).

I had played the original game on a computer when it was first released in 2002 and I remembered it as a gem of its time. In the remake, they have done a very good job, faithfully transferring the experience from the old game with all its positives and negatives. For example, the animations do not match today's standards, and the graphics are purely from the PS4 & Xbox One generation. They have made nice additions, such as the motorcycle. Overall, in my opinion, it is a good title and worth more than €25. Especially for those who had experienced it in its time.
