The New International Order is not only political, as a result of the collapse of "existing" socialism and the corresponding end of the Cold War. Equally important is its economic and ideological dimension. The globalization of the market economy and the universalization of the economic program of the neoliberal consensus define its economic dimension. Similarly, the postmodern mythology of the end of ideologies determines its ideological dimension. This book examines these three basic components of the New Order and their implications for Greece. The consequences of the country's integration into the globalized market economy, the rise of social-liberalism to power, which aims to complete this process, and the parallel rise of a mixture of Greek Orthodox nationalism are significant elements of the analysis attempted through the essays contained in this book. Finally, the exploration of an alternative "order," determined by the parameters of political, economic, and ecological democracy, is juxtaposed with the current "democratic" New Order, which is adopted or accepted not only by neoliberals but also by their supposed opponents in the "center-left."
