Description
Catalog of the tribute to the work of Nanni Moretti organized by the 36th Thessaloniki Film Festival (3-12 November 1995), coordinated by Thrasyvoulos Yatsos.
"Nanni Moretti can and should be considered as the successor or, rather, the most genuine continuator of a venerable tradition inherited by directors such as Rossellini, Visconti, Antonioni, etc., which led Italian cinema to its great flourishing (from the end of the War until the 1970s).
His original cinematic language, his political sensitivity and committed art, his inflexibility towards the commercial trends that dominated cinema, especially in the last two decades, have earned him the appreciation of the audience and critics.
Moretti is today perhaps the most solid representative of a generation of restless young Italian filmmakers who, taking the thread from the great masters of the past, shape the promising landscape of new Italian (and, more generally, European) cinema.
Therefore, the Thessaloniki Film Festival did the right thing by organizing a tribute and offering the Greek audience, through this book and the screening of almost all his films, a complete and documented image of his work.
Greek cinema lovers will have the opportunity to deeply appreciate, through films that will be screened for the first time in Greece, the significant role that Moretti - as a director, actor, and producer - has played and will continue to play in contemporary cinema."
Remo Rapetti, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens and Thessaloniki.
