Description

The story features a maritime brochure and travels for two decades, carrying seafaring men and seafaring women on the great or insignificant voyages of life, from Surampagia to the cherry orchards of Andros, from a tomato pilaf in Buenos Aires to the Allied shipwrecks during World War II in Riva and in the white two-story houses of Saltafero with the cheap ceiling, which, like a spread tulip, dripped the sounds of the upper house and along with them the sounds of love in the identical lower house, twenty-four thin cypress planks that ruined lives.

The widely read novel by Ioanna Karystiani was adapted into a film by Pantelis Voulgaris, based on her own screenplay, starring Pinelopi Tsilika, Maxim Moomouris, Andreas Konstantinou, Vasilis Vasilakis, Anesa Papadopoulou, and Christos Kalavrouzos (1st screening: December 2013).

It was a very nice book, I particularly liked the maritime language it contains. Some people might be bothered by the profanity, but it didn't bother me, I have read worse. The subject it deals with is quite common, but in this case, it was nicely written. The only negative thing in my opinion that deprived the book of five stars is the fact that in the first few pages it is quite confusing, there is literally a chaos of names, places, locations, and whatever else one can imagine. The landscape clears up of course after the first few chapters and you understand perfectly what is happening, but in the beginning, you have lost the ball.
