The philosophical reflection of "Observations on Colors" develops at the intersection of grammar and phenomenology. And it is truly a rich reflection: it directly touches upon the notorious issue of the interplay between the available chromatic vocabulary and the chromatic repertoire that one is capable of perceiving (with many comments on how achromatopsia can stand as an alternative repertoire for perceiving colored objects); at the same time, it challenges our imagination by asking us to conceive of what could count, for example, as "transparent white" (e.g. a transparent white glass) - and if we cannot, to explain why.
