In this book, we aimed to capture the recent journey of individuals with a refugee background in the Greek educational and social environment, while also exploring the prospects of its development and the conditions for its positive outcome. The title attempts to capture points of this journey. "The container" represents the evolution of the tent and marks the transition from temporariness and poverty to more dignified living conditions and systematic education: "after the container". However, the step towards the next stage remains uncertain; there are still refugees in tents and containers, children out of school, obstacles at national, European, and global levels that keep this population at previous stages: "with the container".
The content of "refugee education" does not only refer to refugees but also to structural issues and demands of the Greek school that emerge urgently. With this in mind, we attempted a synthesis of scientific assumptions, methodological directions, and educational applications, in order to outline the landscape of education for students with refugee/migrant experience. The challenges that emerge in this landscape constitute, we believe, a valuable opportunity for redesigning and transforming the broader educational practice towards a genuinely intercultural-inclusive direction.
