Perhaps it will even help us better understand where we Greeks belong: in the East or in the West? Our ancient Greek history obliges us to belong to the West. Our Byzantine history and Christianity oblige us to belong to the East. And thus, our national schizophrenia, as described by Zampelios, emerges. If this book helps you overcome, even minimally, the national schizophrenia that is divided within each of us, it may protect you from more serious forms of mental illness. Such as, for example, that of chauvinism, which is the "purest" and most dangerous form of collective madness. The one that lies at the root of every fascism.
