Description

"It took more than fifteen years for Tasos Athanasiadis to bring to a worthy conclusion this literary feat that should secure him a completely unique and special place within the entirety of modern Greek prose... there is no similar case of a long-winded novel in our literature. Nor is there a similar intention to present a river-novel through the story of a characteristic family, the Pantheons, the social, psychological, and historical Greece of the first forty years of our century."
(Andreas Karantonis)

"Tasos Athanasiadis is above all a stylist who grapples with the very things themselves, who touches life at its joints. His word is chosen, the phrase sculpted, the tone steadily calculated, with the vigilant care of an artist who fears that even the slightest discord could disrupt the balance of the whole..."
(Giannis Chatzinis)

Classic realistic writing of the interwar period with all the virtues of the literature of the time. Comparable to Karagatsis, you are captivated by the wandering in the old way of life of the Greek urban class and besides the characters who do not have the dramatic extremes of Karagatsis, you are won over by the descriptions, almost soothing and transporting you to distant yet timeless worlds.
