Description
Michel Foucault became known not only for his important theoretical work, but also for the range of political consequences that it had in the context of the present. Specifically, regarding the issue of prisons and the penal system, Foucault became known not only for his book "Surveiller et punir: Naissance de la prison" (Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison), but also for his political action alongside the rebels in French prisons through the Information Group on Prisons. In May 1978, he participated in a "round table" with historians on the history of the penal system. This discussion expanded to critical issues of methodology, concerning both writing and the political targeting of history. Historians criticized the "Foucauldian schema" and Foucault, for his part, tried to clarify his theoretical methodology and his political practice through the concept of "eventalization".
