In this edition, representative topics of current basic, clinical, and laboratory immunology are presented, and fundamental immunological mechanisms that govern basic pathological conditions of everyday life, such as infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer, are approached. Alongside the established immunological knowledge, reference is made to the latest developments. 

The material is structured into four sections: 

• Basic principles of immunology, where, in addition to the basic knowledge provided, the mechanisms of natural and specific immunity in infection, autoimmunity, and cancer, as well as hypersensitivity reactions, are analyzed, while the topical issue of vaccines is not overlooked from a mechanistic perspective. 
• Immunodeficiencies, where the eight major groups of primary immunodeficiencies and secondary immunodeficiencies are analyzed. 
• Autoimmune diseases, where representative systemic autoimmune diseases of particular importance, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, and systemic vasculitis, are examined, and the two most representative organ-specific autoimmune diseases, type I diabetes and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, are analyzed. Additionally, significant associated diseases (atherosclerosis, autoimmune cytopenias, pulmonary disease, miscarriages) are described. 
• Finally, the chapter on Diagnostic Immunology focuses on the immunological laboratory diagnostic approach in clinical practice, particularly for systemic autoimmune diseases and vasculitic syndromes. Additionally, in order to assist the reader in familiarizing themselves with immunological terms, the publication is accompanied by a glossary of terms and concepts, making the work a functional and well-organized manual.
