Written in the 12th century by the great Persian poet Attar, The Conference of the Birds is considered today one of the most important works of world literature. It is a wonderful allegory about the search for Truth, drawing from the teachings of Sufism, the mystical tradition of Islam.
At some point, birds from all over the world gather and decide to seek their ideal king, the legendary bird Simurgh. However, in order to find him, they must embark on a very arduous and dangerous journey, so they express their fears to their leader, the hoopoe. With eloquence and insight, the hoopoe reassures them, using certain parables and wise stories that serve as a kind of guidance for the search for Truth. And the journey begins...
Attar traveled to the seven cities of love, while I am still at the turn of the first road.
Rumi
"Attar's magnificent allegory about the journey of the soul as it seeks to unite with the Divine, which has influenced thousands of people around the world."
