Alexandros Iolas was and still is a controversial and brilliant figure of modern Greece, the world - a leading figure in the history of 20th-century art. In the last years of his life, he was a victim of an unprecedented and brutal defamation, accused of antiquities smuggling, prostitution, and drug use.

He did not write a will, but he left ninety tapes in which he narrates his life to Nikos Stathoulis, who chose him as his biographer. Alexandros Iolas' autobiography, presented 25 years after his death (1987), will contribute to the restoration of the memory of the man for whom Max Ernst once said: "But who is this man who can go against the angry oceans?
