Description

I never talk about the negative side of my life, first of all because I don't want to complain; I was a fighter who was not lucky in the immediate struggle and fighters cannot and should not complain about their fate because they fought not because someone forced them, but because they wanted it consciously.
With the title "Intellectuals and the organization of culture" the Italian editors of Gramsci's works have collected his texts referring to the above issues. The texts are divided into three main sections. The first concerns the formation and function of intellectuals in modern society and is published by us as the first volume in the series of his works. The second concerns the organization of the school and education in general, and the third deals with the various aspects of journalism and its role in modern society.
In this present second volume in the series of his works, we have included these two separate sections under the unified title "The organization of culture". Essentially, this volume is an organic continuation of the first, expanding the analysis of how organized society functions in relation to intellectuals.
However, separate and perhaps even more significant is Gramsci's contribution to the field of journalism. In this section, the Italian leader has developed a series of positions and principles for the functioning of the institution that - truly - remain unsurpassed. And this is because the value of Gramsci's works is not simply "theoretical". Their harmoniously balanced relationship not only with serious theoretical research, but also - simultaneously - with the immediacy of practice, produces a robust and vibrant work that maintains its value intact in the 21st century, occupying one of the leading positions in modern political philology.
