Description

The shocking events in the USSR and the countries of "existing" socialism in the late '80s and early '90s affected communist parties worldwide and in our country.
Konstantinos Zagaras' book examines the causes and processes of the dissolution of the KKE in 1991 and particularly explores the factors that played a decisive role in shaping two distinct political-ideological poles within the KKE in the 1980s. Two currents that clashed before and after the 13th Congress of the Communist Party in February 1991. The book also addresses the issue of the Greek communist Left with identity and political crises in relation to historical events, as well as the role that parties play as poles of broader positions and organizations that develop an interactive relationship with social transformations and international factors. It examines how the relationships of representation and education of a communist party are formed, which can potentially and decisively influence the course of historical trends on a micro level. At the same time, it focuses on the ideological and political formations, worldviews, and influences that led to the formation of the two distinct ideological currents in the second half of the 1980s within the internal field of the KKE.
The book includes detailed testimonies from important figures of the Left of that era, specifically: Alekos Alavanos, Mimis Androulakis, Nantia Valavani, Babis Georgoulas, Giannis Dragasakis, Thanasis Karteros, Pavlos Kladianos, Fotis Kouvelis, Panagiotis Lafazanis, Giannis Balafas, Giorgos Papapetrou, Giorgos Petropoulos, Pavlos Tsima, Angelos Hagiou, and Nikos Hountis. It also includes excerpts from primary testimonies of Dimitris Papadimoulis, Theodoros Margaritis, Makis Kofidis, Takis Benas, Manolis Glezos, Kostas Filinis, Stefanos Stefanou, and Mitsos Kostopoulos.
