Description

In the era of deep economic and spiritual crisis that we are going through, any involvement with the arts is considered by many, "experts" and non-experts, "competent" and non-competent, futile and unnecessary. This is exactly where the justification for the publication of such a book lies, in which our experience at the 91st Primary School of Athens is recorded, from the staging of Ikaromenippos, presenting texts, biographies, interviews, scores, recordings, photos, videos. We believed that it is feasible a) to introduce children to the great satirist of antiquity, Lucian, b) to acquaint them with the genre of science fiction, through the fascinating space journey of Ikaromenippos, and c) to use the -rather unknown- theatrical technique of black light. We consider the above to be three innovations for Greek public primary school, to the extent of the information we have so far. The book was intentionally made bilingual (Greek and English), as other schools outside Greece may be interested in learning about our experience. In any case, we can contribute to colleagues to generate other ideas, to create various teaching scenarios, by mobilizing their own inventiveness and imagination. The goal remains the development and cultivation of students' skills, the creation of citizens with integrated personality and social consciousness, who work in a creative environment of collectivity, solidarity, and democratic thinking.
