What does the modern shift of the lock from the house to the neighborhood mean for the form and meaning of urban space? How are gated communities and the material exclusion of space connected to the globalized version of culture and neoliberalism? In what way does the displacement of the essence of the home from the roof to the door redefine the problematic of public space? Ultimately, how does the transformation of urban space introduced by gated communities shape the city in relation to the other? Through a critical study of gated communities within the framework of both their bibliographic processing and their literary rendering, the author attempts an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the above questions, identifying in urban space design, sociological, psychoanalytic, and philosophical qualities. The aim of the work is a multifaceted understanding and interpretation of the gated structure of neighborhoods and the modern city, and their corresponding contribution to contemporary conceptions of the creation of our everyday experiences.
