With this edition, a part of the instrumental music of Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese is captured in musical notation. Specifically, it includes instrumental melodies and certain instrumental versions of songs, more or less distant from vocal forms. The material is presented with the criterion of highlighting the musical style of earlier generations, taking into account that this style reflects the aesthetic criterion corresponding to specific historical phases. The completeness of each instrumental melody was a criterion for selecting the material for this edition, aiming to present it as comprehensively as possible. The material can be the subject of analysis of various parameters (musical modes, rhythmic structure, ornamentation, form, etc.) and at the same time can serve as material for teaching musical instruments.
