The theory of gender wants to be our new gospel, bringing the "good news" that male and female are only historical and social constructs, and therefore can be deconstructed. Bérénice Levet maintains equal distance between supporters and opponents of gender theory. She wonders: at the heart of gender theory, in this promise of a world where there will no longer be men or women but beings assigned to a supposed primordial neutrality, is there not a will to cut the wings of heterosexual desire, to exorcise the specter of attraction that the two sexes inspire in each other? Is not gender theory the most recent face of hatred for Love, the latest version of a puritanism that dares not speak its name and uses a progressive alibi?
