The book presents the basic concepts of financial accounting and their practical application, based on the rules derived from the current Greek institutional framework. Specifically, it deals with the analysis, measurement, and recording of the financial transactions of business units with the aim of preparing financial statements and reports, such as the Balance Sheet and the Income Statement, and providing information to both third parties and the internal environment of businesses for making sound decisions.
Its content is divided into three parts. The first part presents the basic concepts and theoretical principles of financial or general accounting, the second presents financial accounting within the framework prescribed by the Greek Accounting Standards (Law 4308/2014), while the third refers to International Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Additionally, accounting entries are presented using both the chart of accounts of the Greek General Accounting Plan (or G.G.A.P., Presidential Decree 1123/1980, which economic units still have the option to use today) and the proposed chart of accounts of the Greek Accounting Standards (GAS).
At the end of each chapter, for self-assessment of knowledge, questions and exercises are provided, the answers to which are given at the end of the book, as well as a glossary of new terms in the chapter and relevant bibliography.
