The passage of SYRIZA from protest to governance makes it an emblematic case study. It is a party in motion, which even before the crisis radically reinvented itself and constantly redefines itself during the crisis, moving from the phase of launch to preparation for governance and finally to exercising power. The main objective of this volume is to approach the multifactorial and paradoxical rise of SYRIZA, without the analysis being trapped in the prism of justification or betrayal, redemption or demagogic deception. The project consists of a series of approaches that concern electoral sociology, party organization and strategy, social movements, political discourse and ideology, history, the state and public policies, party competition, and comparative politics. If anything, they have in common is not necessarily a common conclusion but a common question: how could we conceptualize the political proposal that SYRIZA eclectically composes, but also formulate some interpretations of the resilience it seems to have, as it is now established as the main pole of Greek political life through its ideological ambiguity. Are there continuities within change? What kind of physiognomy do the adaptations, transformations, and metamorphoses of SYRIZA create? The question remains open as to whether it is a new example of left-wing politics or a transition to the other side, a social democratic party in power - or an "experiment" in an era where political identities seem more fluid than ever, allowing for the emergence of unruly morphologies.
