The search for the "meaning" of Greek presence in the present has become almost conspiratorial. There is no encouraging sign, it seems, that for so many decades now, there has been a newspaper intervention in public affairs that is regular (and persistent) on Sundays.

My newspapers survive "covertly," and this probably confirms that they will be read someday.

They seem silently condemned to agreed-upon silence: The "leftists" overlook them condescendingly as "right-wing," the "rightists" detest them as unbearable "left-wing," the "centrists" simply do not understand them, they do not have the "receptive capacity." The generalized and self-evident disregard or ridicule of them confirms that these newspapers will definitely be read someday.

Contemporary readers inevitably stumble upon the shortcomings and weaknesses of the newspaper writer: His grief is not cleansed of aggression, his pain is often intertwined with anger. Above all, he proves to be gullible: when they start, he presents them all as hopeful, highlighting their positive qualities, betting on their good ambitions and their creative ambition. And then they all prove him wrong.

So, these newspapers will be read someday.
