Description

Intended for use with cameras featuring a crop frame sensor (smaller frame) and Nikon F Mount. It is aimed at photographers who wish to capture detailed and clear images of small objects, such as flowers, insects, jewelry, and products for commercial or other purposes. It is compatible with Nikon cameras with DX and FX sensors with conversion to DX mode and also features Silent Wave Motor technology for fast and quiet focusing.

Get closer than you ever imagined

Macro photography promises fun, unique ways to capture the things that impress you the most, whether it's the petal of a flower, the eye of an insect, or the tiny toes of a newborn baby. The AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G provides high resolution and contrast from infinity to life-size (1X), allowing you to focus very close to your subjects, letting you get lost in the tiny details of life.

Reveal Hidden Beauties

Sharp images ranging from infinity to life-size (1:1). This standard close-up lens captures even the smallest details from any distance, including details that are essentially invisible to the human eye. It is an excellent choice for food photography or detailed product shots. At the same time, thanks to the continuous autofocus capability from infinity to 16.3 cm (life-size, reproduction ratio 1:1), the AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens ensures sharpness and clarity in every composition.

Isolate your subjects

Whether you are shooting portraits, food, or natural landscapes indoors or outdoors, the 7-blade circular aperture ensures beautiful, natural background blur (bokeh) at maximum aperture settings. Selective focus helps to isolate the subject and render the background out of focus.

Take it with you everywhere

The AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G is compact, lightweight, and versatile enough for everyday photography. Capture flattering portraits and stunning landscapes. Enjoy impressive results in most situations without needing to change lenses.

Something more than macro

Enjoy the details you capture

It is excellent for photographing natural environments and for extremely close-up shots. Its ability to capture small details makes it ideal for landscape photography.

Technologies

CRC System

The Close-Range Correction (CRC) system is one of Nikon's most important focusing innovations, providing superior image quality at close focusing distances and increasing the focusing range. With the CRC system, lens elements are configured in a "floating element" design, where each lens group moves independently to achieve focus. This ensures superior lens performance even when shooting at close distances. The CRC system is used in fisheye, wide-angle, micro, and selected medium telephoto NIKKOR lenses.

M/A

Some NIKKOR lenses feature a focusing mode that allows switching from automatic to manual focus with virtually no delay, simply by rotating the focus ring on the lens. This makes it possible to smoothly transition to manual focus while looking through the viewfinder.

Silent Wave Motor

This technology converts "traveling waves" into rotational energy to focus the lenses. This allows for high-speed autofocus that is extremely accurate and super quiet.

SIC

This is Nikon's term for the multi-layer coating of optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

I haven't had the lens for very long, but I immediately noticed the difference in the photos. I got it in combination with the Nikon D3500 kit for jewelry photography for my e-shop, and I am truly impressed. In many photos, I don't even need to edit anything!

    I bought it used for 180 - (I have it on a Nikon D3100).
    Let's start with the positives!

    -Beautiful colors, very vibrant!
    -Quiet focus
    -Fast focus
    -Sharp! From 2.8 to 6-8 aperture, it's razor-sharp!
-Minimal chromatic aberrations! (Since I had the cheap 70-300 Tamron, I know what excessively bad chromatic aberrations mean) and here they are minimal, I could barely see some when I zoomed in excessively on the preview!
-Very small and lightweight! Smaller than the 18-55 VR kit lens! I really didn't expect that!
-Quite bright (compared to the 18-55 VR kit lens and the 70-300mm Tamron)
-Being sharp as a lens, it's also good for landscapes and distant details!
-It's also great for portraits, as it is sharp and captures details well!
-And let's not forget that it's a true 1:1 macro lens!
-Compared to other macro lenses, it's quite affordable!

~As for negatives (although it doesn't bother me much), it doesn't have image stabilization, which would have been helpful for those who wanted to shoot videos.

I love this lens, it's very easy to learn and I wonder what I will be able to do with it in the future.
    As I said, I have it on a Nikon D3100, a 2010 camera with 14.2MP.
The difference with a 2018 body with 24MP will definitely be significant!
Happy shopping, and if you find it used for 180-200, grab it and you won't regret it!

Update: Now I have it on a Nikon D3400, the only differences are mainly in the crop factor due to the higher number of pixels, so we have even more details, which is very important in macro photography. That's it, happy shooting!

Good lens, it takes a lot of work to get used to it, good for macro photography, for food, fast focusing. Not suitable for video.. honest for its price.. up date .. the lens is a real gem. . see what the package contains and some examples of photos from my channel https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CVG7TLGXZCk

I won't say much about this lens. I've had it for a month and I've put it in the box with the 16-80 (which is premium) and the 35mm at f/1.8. It has everything for an amateur. (1) Lightweight: Yes! (2) Sharp? Yes. (3) Good for street photography? Yes! (4) Good for family photos? Yes (with 1-2 steps back depending on the number of people). (5) Good for simple amateur portraits? Yes, with limitations, but its bokeh is incredible. (6) Does it work for food/product photography? Maybe its strongest point!! Bonus: Extremely impressive macro for flowers, insects, nature details where it captures things that the human eye can't see! Bonus 2: It's affordable. I consider it the best amateur lens on the market right now. It's worth more than the 35mm because it's sharper and gives you fantastic macro. With a good camera (e.g. 7xxx) where you can increase the ISO without any problem, it compensates to some extent for the disadvantage of the 2-stop difference that the 35mm f/1.8 gives you. Attention! Only for DX cameras.

Very nice lens! I have had it for 4 months, it has very nice colors and depth of field with f 2.8. It was the first lens I bought after the kit lens, and after 1 month I sold the kit lens. It is simply amazing! And great for everyday use, portraits, and 1:1 macro
