Description

The theoretical work titled "Surrealism and the Autonomy of Ideas. Towards a New Construction of Tradition" is the comprehensive processing of the positions of the Surrealist Group of Thessaloniki as they were reflected in the lectures you completed in Thessaloniki, Xanthi, and Larissa. Since its establishment, the Surrealist Group of Thessaloniki has aimed at the reinterpretation and reevaluation of literary, poetic, and artistic data as recorded by history, without, however, adhering to and copying it in advance. The goal was to construct a new literary myth based on the Greek surrealists Andreas Embirikos and Nikos Engonopoulos. A myth in which different directions of expression and creation will be balanced, enhancing the necessity of human expression through the perspective of structured surrealism. In this context, this theoretical work attempts to bridge the gap between surrealism and romanticism in order to highlight the dynamics of spiritual, aesthetic, and emotional expression in the perspective of limitless freedom. Our positions on the Greek surrealists Andreas Embirikos and Nikos Engonopoulos are analyzed, while the importance of the presence of G. Theotokas in Greek literature is emphasized. Finally, our claim is developed, not to imitate the construction of tradition as attempted by G. Seferis, but to seek the reference field that will "legitimize" the creation of a new guiding principle in our literary tradition, following the approach of General Makrygiannis.
