This edition is a "axial tomography" of Aeschylus, his life, his era, and his work: Who he was as a person and as a playwright. Where he lived, what he believed, what he wrote, which events marked and defined him, and most importantly, what was the era in which he flourished, who was his "narrower and broader circle", as without the historical and sociological exploration of the era and the place, it is impossible to satisfactorily approach a creative personality. Also presented in rough lines are his seven surviving tragedies, their plot, and the characters involved.
