Description

"'The triple agonizing journey of African Americans' is nothing more than the long-suffering of the inhabitants of West Africa, who, unsuspecting, were captured in their lands by ruthless European slave traders without being able to imagine what would follow. They were violently abducted from their ancestral homes and then, through the notorious slave ships of the time, and across the treacherous Atlantic Ocean, they were transported in poor condition to the opposite shore, to the New World which, notably, gradually emerged as a hopeful horizon in the patient history. The continuation of their journey was catalytic for many levels, both their own and others'. They were sold mercilessly to plantation owners, forced to work as slaves, mainly in cotton plantations, without even the most basic human rights. They were physically and mentally abused, individually, within families and socially. They were brutally punished for reasons that did not befit them. Some escaped from the yoke of the whites, while others did not succeed and were lost from the pages of history. A portion of them remained in the cities and towns of the South until today, in this peculiar region of America, so rich in terms of culture. Some managed to reach and settle in the metropolises of the American North, where they continue to live today, facing the everyday problems that exist in the societies where they work and operate."
