Description

In the late 3rd century, the most important Greek colony in Sicily, Syracuse, faced the greatest danger in its history, the Romans. The great Roman Empire had begun to occupy all the neighboring lands of Italy and its expansion sought Sicily. So with General Marcellus, they arrived with an army and fleet in Syracuse, waiting for the city to surrender. However, Syracuse had a hidden weapon at that time, a brilliant mind, that of the great mathematician, physicist, astronomer, and engineer of Antiquity, Archimedes.
Archimedes managed to organize the city and its defense so well and with such innovative plans that the Romans suffered a tremendous disaster. Mechanical hands smashed their ships on the rocks, while sun rays burned any ship trying to enter the harbor, catapults tore apart the fleet, and heavy lead balls sowed death.
All the events of the conquest of Syracuse and the wonders created by Archimedes until the moment of his death are narrated in this book with exceptionally simple and understandable texts, as well as breathtaking illustrations.
