At seven in the morning, Colonel Bantry and his wife are faced with an unpleasant surprise: there is a dead body in their library. It is a young blonde woman, wearing an evening dress and heavy makeup, which has now faded on her cheeks. Who is she? How did she end up there?

Colonel Bantry notifies the police. Mrs. Bantry notifies... her friend, Miss Marple. Miss Marple is very good at these things, perhaps she will solve the mystery first. This, Mrs. Bantry thinks, would be exciting.

Miss Marple takes action, once again proving that there is no murderer or detective who can challenge an old lady who knows all the gossip in the area...
