In this edition, Sotiria Triantari presents us with an extensive introduction, in which the intellectual journey of Epictetus and his moral teachings are analyzed, as well as those of the Stoics in general. Through a thorough knowledge of the texts and extensive bibliography, S. Triantari traces the evolution of the ideal of the wise man throughout the centuries and composes the political philosophy of Epictetus and his views on the ideal politician. In the third part of the introduction, the echo and influence of the Handbook on the Church Fathers and Byzantine writers are traced, as well as its influence on Byzantine texts on the ideal ruler. This is a well-rounded and comprehensive editorial effort, useful both for the academic community and for the broader educated public.
